In a major crackdown on drug peddling, the Mangaluru City Police arrested five individuals for the possession and sale of ganja at Padushedde village on July 2, following a tip-off received by the Central Crime Station (CCS).
The arrested accused are:
Tushar alias Sonu (21), son of Rajesh Taranath, resident of Adu Maroli, Bikarnakatte
Dhanvi Shetty (20), son of Balakrishna Shetty, resident of Naguri
Sagar Karkera (19), son of Sheetal Kumar, resident of Jalligudde
Vikas Thapa alias Puchchi (23), son of Raju Thapa, resident of Shaktinagar
Vighnesh Kamath (24), son of late Harish Kamath, resident of Alake, Kandettu
Acting on credible intelligence, police raided a location in Haladi, Padushedde, and seized 5.759 kg of ganja valued at approximately Rs5.2 lakh. At the time of the raid, the accused were preparing the narcotics for street-level distribution.
Authorities also seized:
Six mobile phones
One two-wheeler, used for transporting the drugs
Investigators revealed that the accused were actively involved in selling ganja in small packets, each worth Rs1,000, targeting students and the general public in Mangaluru city.
A case has been registered under Crime No. 31/2025 at the Mangaluru Central Crime Station, invoking Sections 8(c) and 20(b)(ii)(B) of the NDPS Act.
Further investigation is underway to trace the source and supply chain of the seized narcotics. The operation was executed under the guidance of senior police officials as part of the city’s intensified anti-drug campaign.
