A Tuscaloosa police officer has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of possessing child sexual abuse material.
Corey Nicholas Burcham, 35, was taken into custody on Monday after an investigation by the West Alabama Human Trafficking Task Force uncovered illicit images on his personal phone. Authorities confiscated Burcham’s devices last Wednesday, leading to the discovery of multiple images.
Charges and Arrest
On Monday, warrants were issued for Burcham, charging him with 10 counts of possession of child sexual abuse material. Tuscaloosa Police Chief Brent Blankley, along with several officers, arrested Burcham at his home in Tuscaloosa County shortly after noon.
Police Response
Chief Blankley emphasized the department’s swift action and zero tolerance for such offenses.
“When we first learned of these allegations last week, we began the necessary procedures that will ensure he never works as a police officer again,” Blankley stated. “We have zero tolerance for actions that undermine the public trust and harm children.”
Burcham, who had served as a Tuscaloosa patrol officer since January 2019, was immediately terminated from the department following the investigation.
Legal Proceedings
Burcham remained in jail Monday afternoon, awaiting a bond decision from a judge. Authorities continue their investigation, and additional updates will be provided as they become available.
