Tupelo Man Arrested for Impersonating Federal Agent in Scam

Hitesh Mashiyava, 38, charged with conspiracy and false pretenses after fraudulent scheme

BOONEVILLE, MS – Hitesh Ratilal Mashiyava, 38, of Tupelo, was arrested on January 30, 2025, following an investigation into a fraudulent scheme where he allegedly impersonated a federal agent to scam funds from a citizen.

The investigation began when Booneville Police Department patrol officers received a report about an unknown suspect pretending to be a federal agent in an attempt to obtain money from the victim. Upon further investigation, the case was handed over to the Criminal Investigations Division, and federal officials were notified.

A joint investigation led to the arrest of Mashiyava, who now faces felony charges of conspiracy to commit fraud and false pretenses. His bond was set at $100,000.

Mashiyava’s case will be presented to the Prentiss County Grand Jury for further legal proceedings. Authorities continue to remind the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement.
