SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. — A Georgia man faces multiple charges after allegedly stealing more than $100,000 in checks from individuals and businesses in Shelby County.
Troy Gonzales, of Decatur, Georgia, was found in possession of numerous stolen checks, burglary tools including a crowbar and gloves, and some Adderall pills, according to court records.
Gonzales was booked into Shelby County Jail on Saturday, February 7, and remains in custody as of February 9 with bond set at $200,000.
He faces multiple charges, including five counts of mail theft with the intent to obtain sensitive personally identifiable information (PII), four counts of identity theft, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance, and three counts of third-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and Gonzales’ actions may have affected multiple victims across the county.
