Tripura Police on Sunday seized drugs valued at over Rs4 crore and arrested a suspected trafficker during a major crackdown at the Churaibari interstate checkpoint in North Tripura.

The accused, identified as Sanjay Sahani (24), was caught transporting more than 80,000 methamphetamine tablets, popularly known as Yaba or party pills, inside a vehicle entering the state from Assam. The tablets are known for their addictive stimulant properties and are increasingly being smuggled into India.

According to police officials, the tablets were likely trafficked from Myanmar through southern Assam, making their way into Tripura. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The seized tablets are part of a wider regional trafficking network. This bust came just days after police in Agartala confiscated a large amount of marijuana, indicating a rising pattern in drug smuggling across the northeastern corridor.

Authorities are continuing to interrogate Sahani and suspect a broader international drug syndicate behind the supply chain.
