Tripura Police scored a significant victory in their anti-narcotics drive by arresting multiple individuals and seizing heroin-like substances and brown sugar worth several lakhs.
In the first operation, based on a confidential tip-off, the Udaipur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) led a raid in Gokulpur on Wednesday morning. During the operation, Mithun Chakraborty and Jaton Debnath were apprehended. Authorities recovered approximately 35 grams of heroin-like substances, valued at around Rs1.5 lakh in the market. A case has been registered at Radhakishorepur Police Station under the NDPS Act, and investigations are ongoing to trace the source and network behind the contraband.
Later the same evening at Udaipur Railway Station, police intercepted a suspected drug smuggling attempt on the Kanchenjunga Express, originating from West Bengal. Salim Uddin, a sanitation worker with the 121 BSF Battalion, along with Sajimul Islam and Farid Akhtar, were arrested. Officers recovered 128 grams of brown sugar packed in ten packets, with an estimated market value of Rs5 lakh. The trio has been booked under the NDPS Act.
Police officials, including SDPO Debanjali Roy and Additional Superintendent of Police Hrishikesh J. Desai, emphasized that vigilance and intelligence-led operations remain crucial to combating narcotics trafficking in the region.
