Late Saturday night, Tripura Police arrested seven individuals, including six from Bihar, and seized 20 kilograms of cannabis worth several lakhs during a routine vehicle check in Kalyanpur, Khowai district.
The Kalyanpur Police Station officer-in-charge, Tapas Malakar, said that during a late-night drive, police stopped an Eco car carrying three men and three women from Bihar.
“Suspecting illegal activity, a thorough search was conducted, leading to the recovery of 20 kg of cannabis. All passengers, including the driver, were detained immediately,” Malakar stated.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the detainees were involved in drug trafficking, transporting the consignment to Bihar in exchange for money.
The arrested Bihar residents are Sambhu Kumar, Mantu Mandal, Abdes Kumar Mandal, Anjali Mandal, Sangita Kumari, and Lalita Devi. The driver, Gautam Debbarma, hails from Lefunga village, West Tripura district.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and the investigation is ongoing.
