The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal Police has arrested Milan Sardar, a Trinamool Congress councillor from Barasat Municipality, for the alleged abduction of a Tripura-based businessman. The arrest occurred late Thursday night, and Sardar will be presented in a district court on Friday.
Sardar’s expulsion from the Trinamool Congress was announced shortly after his arrest. Prior to this, CID had already apprehended six of his associates involved in the crime. The victim had been visiting relatives in Sodepur when he was abducted at gunpoint from a local garage in early September.
Initially held at a farmhouse in Barasat, the businessman was later moved to a residential flat in the area. Following the CID’s takeover of the investigation, officials raided the flat and rescued him, leading to the arrest of the six suspects. During interrogation, they revealed that Sardar orchestrated the abduction and arranged the locations where the businessman was kept.
After going into hiding, Sardar was located and arrested following a tip-off received by CID. Reacting to the incident, Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, a four-time Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member, stated that the party would not tolerate such behavior and confirmed Sardar’s expulsion.
Sardar had a background in a local gold ornament shop before entering politics in 2015. He has faced multiple complaints regarding financial irregularities in the past.
