KAUFMAN, Texas (KLTV) — Trevor Rhea McEuen, a 2023 Kaufman County murder suspect, was arrested Monday morning after a nearly month-long manhunt ended in a SWAT standoff.
McEuen, who was out on bond, failed to appear in court on May 5 for the murder of 35-year-old Aaron Martinez. Authorities said he removed his ankle monitor and fled his home, which was later found on fire. The incident triggered a major manhunt, with the U.S. Marshals Service leading the search east of Grand Saline.
After weeks of searching, McEuen was located at his grandparents’ home along U.S. Highway 80, near where the search began. Multiple law enforcement agencies served a search warrant early Monday. After hours of a SWAT standoff, McEuen was taken into custody without any reported injuries or gunfire.
He was booked into the Kaufman County Jail at 5:38 a.m. Monday. Officials are considering additional charges for individuals who may have helped hide him.
McEuen faces charges including capital murder by terror threat, murder, five counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, arson of a habitation, and bail jumping. His trial is scheduled for August, and authorities say he will likely remain in jail until then.
The Texas Department of Public Safety had listed McEuen among their top 10 most wanted fugitives, offering a $30,000 reward. However, the reward will not be paid out, as law enforcement located him through their own investigation. Governor Greg Abbott has cited the case in ongoing discussions about bail reform laws in Texas.
