MELBOURNE — Trainee surgeon Ryan Cho, 28, accused of secretly filming hundreds of women in hospital bathrooms, faces more than 130 charges, including stalking, producing intimate images, and installing surveillance devices.
Cho was granted bail on August 22, 2025, at the Victorian Supreme Court, with Justice James Elliott imposing strict conditions such as a curfew, mandatory medical treatment, and a ban on hospital attendance except in emergencies. Cho must live with his parents, who posted a $50,000 surety.
Defense barrister Julian McMahon SC described Cho’s alleged actions as stemming from “complex psychiatric and psychological issues,” suggesting the case may face lengthy delays as hundreds more charges are anticipated before year-end.
Prosecutor Russ Hammill stated that police found approximately 4,500 intimate videos on Cho’s devices, with at least 460 victims identified across Austin Hospital, Royal Melbourne Hospital, and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He described the behavior as “bordering on obsessive.”
Cho’s trial is expected to be scheduled for the second half of 2026. The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities working to identify additional victims.
