A 28-year-old trader, Dorcas Twene Amankwa, has been sentenced to five years in prison after defrauding 97 individuals of GH¢402,000 under the false pretense of securing them jobs in Ghana’s security services. The sentence was handed down by the Circuit Court in Accra, presided over by Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah, after Amankwa was found guilty of defrauding by false pretenses.

The prosecution revealed that the complainant, Michael Amoah, an Immigration Officer, and Amankwa both lived in Nsawam in the Eastern Region. In 2021, Amankwa approached Amoah, claiming that she had protocol slots for recruitment into the security services through her connections at the Jubilee House.

Amoah then mobilized several people, encouraging them to pay a recruitment fee ranging from GH¢7,000 to GH¢15,000. These amounts were collected by Amoah and handed over to Amankwa, who promised to enlist the individuals into the Ghana Immigration Service, the National Fire Service, and other security agencies.

However, Amankwa failed to fulfill her promise. Instead of successfully securing employment for the applicants, she absconded with a total of GH¢420,000. During the investigation, Amankwa admitted to collecting GH¢400,000 from the complainant.

On May 4, 2022, Amankwa was arrested. She also mentioned a man named Boadi as her accomplice, but authorities were unable to locate him. The court sentenced Amankwa to five years in prison for her fraudulent actions.
