HICKORY, N.C. — A Hickory woman has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to trafficking opioids by transportation in Catawba County Superior Court.
33-year-old Tracy Shane Campos received a sentence of seven to ten years behind bars and was ordered to pay a $750,000 fine following her conviction on Tuesday, November 4. The sentence was handed down by Superior Court Judge Nathaniel J. Poovey.
According to court records, Campos was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for speeding on U.S. 321 on April 25, 2025. When approached by deputies, she attempted to conceal a container under her leg, which popped open to reveal a white, powdery substance.
A search of the vehicle uncovered multiple bags of suspected narcotics and two handguns. Testing by the State Crime Lab confirmed the substance was fentanyl in an amount meeting the threshold for trafficking.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as a co-defendant, still faces pending charges.
The investigation was led by Samuel Helms of the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from Wesley Crowe and Daniel Ikerd. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Taylor Rockett, aided by Legal Assistant Britnee Ulsamer.
