Tracy Gulzow, 56, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was sentenced to 17.5 years in federal prison after being convicted of possessing with intent to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine. The announcement, made by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nebraska on March 24, revealed Gulzow’s involvement in a significant methamphetamine trafficking operation.
Gulzow was identified in a lengthy investigation led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) as a distributor for a Mexican-based drug trafficking organization (DTO). The U.S. Justice Department continues to warn about the persistent and evolving threat posed by DTOs, especially those from Mexico and Asia, who have greatly expanded their influence over the U.S. drug market.
The investigation revealed that Gulzow, initially recognized as a customer of the DTO in March 2022, transitioned into a distributor by the fall of 2023. On January 24, 2023, during a routine traffic stop conducted by the Omaha Police Department, officers found nine pounds of methamphetamine in her vehicle.
Following the arrest, Gulzow admitted to law enforcement that she had received over 50 pounds of meth from the DTO since taking on her role as a distributor. A subsequent search of her residence led to the discovery of two additional pounds of methamphetamine, a firearm, and $19,563 in cash, all believed to be proceeds from the sale of illegal narcotics.
This case highlights the ongoing efforts by federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to dismantle drug trafficking organizations and reduce the spread of dangerous substances like methamphetamine.
