Southfield Tire Theft Suspect Arrested After Wild Chase and Pond Escape Attempt
A 31-year-old man identified as Trachawn McCaa was arrested early Tuesday morning in Southfield, Michigan, following a dramatic attempt to evade police that included a car chase, a crash, and a swim across a pond.
McCaa and his alleged accomplice, 51-year-old Prince Madison, were suspected of stealing tires from a Ford F-150. The suspects used a Chrysler Pacifica minivan, reportedly rented for the heist, to flee the scene.
Police pursued the vehicle, which eventually collided with a police cruiser, injuring two officers. In a desperate attempt to escape, McCaa fled on foot and tried to swim across a pond, but was soon captured and taken into custody.
Both McCaa and Madison have prior felony records and now face larceny charges. McCaa has been additionally charged with fleeing and eluding police. The court has issued bond conditions for both suspects, including mandatory GPS tethers should they be released.
Authorities continue to investigate whether the suspects are tied to other similar crimes in the area.
