
TORONTO – Toronto police have arrested one man and issued a Canada-wide warrant for another following a fatal shooting that occurred in Scarborough on the evening of Monday, June 9, 2025.
The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. near Cedar Drive and Eglinton Avenue East. Upon arrival, responding officers found a man on the ground suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby trauma centre, where he later died of his injuries.
Witnesses at the scene described a chaotic moment. One resident said the victim appeared to be “shaking” and did not initially realize he had been shot. Another local, visiting a nearby plaza, reported hearing a single gunshot and then seeing people scatter before calm returned.
On Sunday, June 15, Toronto Police Service (TPS) announced the arrest of 24-year-old Jelani DeJonge-Reece, who has been charged with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear at the Toronto Regional Bail Centre.
Meanwhile, 31-year-old Tamah McLean of Toronto remains wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, also for second-degree murder in connection with the shooting.
“Anyone with knowledge of his whereabouts is asked to contact police,” the TPS said in a public alert. “Do not approach if located. Call 911 immediately.”
The investigation remains active, and police urge anyone with information or video footage to come forward.
