LONOKE COUNTY, Ark. (WMC) – A Memphis man is facing multiple serious charges, including first-degree murder, after a high-speed police chase in Lonoke County, Arkansas, resulted in the death of a Memphis woman.
According to Arkansas State Police (ASP), 30-year-old Torkilo Hambrick is accused of causing the crash that fatally ejected 29-year-old Laterrika Woods from a speeding vehicle on Tuesday.
The pursuit began when a trooper observed a white Dodge Ram committing a traffic violation on Interstate 40 near Mile Marker 173. ASP says Hambrick initially pulled over but quickly sped off, sparking a dangerous chase that reached speeds of over 120 miles per hour heading eastbound.
Inside the vehicle were four individuals: Hambrick, Woods, 26-year-old Latarica Walker, and 45-year-old Zuri Jones.
Tragically, during the chase, Woods was ejected from the vehicle and killed.
Hambrick is now charged with:
First-degree murder
Two counts of second-degree battery
Felon in possession of a firearm
Felony fleeing
Arkansas State Police stated that additional charges are likely, emphasizing that the death was the direct result of Hambrick’s “reckless, selfish actions.”
“This is another example of what can happen when a suspect flees from law enforcement,” ASP said in a public statement. “Our troopers will not and cannot look the other way.”
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
