LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A 26-year-old Madison, Indiana woman has been charged with murder and multiple counts of attempted murder after she allegedly stabbed her girlfriend to death early Friday morning.
Officers with the Madison Police Department responded around 2:30 a.m. to an apartment on Regatta Court in the Presidential neighborhood after a report that a woman was “actively stabbing” her partner.
According to court documents, officers forced entry and heard screaming from the upper level. They found Tori Dennison descending the stairs covered in blood and still holding a knife in her hand. She was immediately taken into custody.
Inside the bedroom, officers found the victim, 26-year-old Casey Hilt, lying on her back. Police said she had suffered fatal injuries, and life-saving efforts were deemed non-viable. Hilt was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other individuals were found in a separate room and safely escorted outside.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Dennison later told officers she hadn’t taken her prescribed medication for depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia “in a long time.” She also reportedly admitted she intended to harm others after the initial stabbing, saying she began stabbing the door to the other bedroom to “kill everyone else.”
While being checked at a hospital, she asked officers, “Did I kill her?”
Dennison has been charged with one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder. During her court appearance Friday afternoon, she entered a not guilty plea. A judge ordered her held without bond. Her next court date is set for July 21.
“This is a tragic event for our community,” said Madison Police Chief Shawn Scudder. “Thanks to the swift actions of our officers, the suspect was quickly apprehended, and we will pursue justice for the victim and her loved ones.”
