A Topeka man has been arrested in connection with the city’s second homicide of 2025. Desmond A. Lindsey, 23, is facing multiple charges after a fatal shooting on Saturday, Feb. 10.
Topeka Police responded to a local hospital around 1 a.m. after receiving a report about a victim suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. The incident took place in the 1700 block of SE 23rd Street. The victim, 29-year-old Chavis Collins of Topeka, later succumbed to his injuries.
Following an investigation, Lindsey was arrested and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections. He faces charges including second-degree murder, intentional criminal discharge of a firearm, recklessly firing at an occupied dwelling, aggravated assault, and use of a deadly weapon.
This marks the second homicide investigation in Topeka for the year 2025.
