Pittsburg, Kansas – A local man, Tony V. Corbitt, has been arrested following an investigation into three separate theft incidents that occurred in Pittsburg earlier this month.

Incident #1 – Stolen Vehicle
On Friday, January 3, at around 12:22 AM, the Pittsburg Police Department responded to 5th Street Bar & Grill on a report of a stolen vehicle. The owner of the vehicle had left it in the rear parking lot with the keys in the center console. When the owner returned, the car was missing. Video footage from the area showed the theft in progress. The vehicle was located later that evening, and the owner discovered that around $1,000 worth of tools had been stolen.

Incident #2 – Burglary to Vehicle
Later that same day, at approximately 1:18 PM, police responded to a burglary report at 2826 N. Broadway. The victim had observed a suspect reach into her vehicle through an open window. Upon checking, she found her purse missing. One of her debit cards was later used at a local gas station, and police were able to locate the suspect’s vehicle, questioning the occupants. Video surveillance from the scene was collected for further investigation.

Incident #3 – Another Burglary
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at approximately 11:32 AM, police responded to another burglary to a vehicle in the 1900 block of S. Pine. The victim reported items, including their wallet, had been stolen. Further investigation linked the three incidents and helped identify a suspect.

Search Warrant and Arrest
On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, officers executed a search warrant at 208 N. Pine Street, Apartment A, in connection with stolen property. Two individuals were detained during the search, and evidence related to the thefts was found and seized. During the search, officers also discovered illegal narcotics, leading to a second search warrant. As a result, 50-year-old Tony V. Corbitt was arrested on charges including felony theft of a motor vehicle, felony burglary, and misdemeanor possession of stolen property.

Corbitt was transported to the Crawford County Jail, where he is being held without bond. Additional charges related to the narcotics found during the search are possible. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Pittsburg Police Department reminds the public to secure their vehicles, remove valuables, and never leave keys in or with vehicles. Surveillance footage was instrumental in solving these cases, assisting in identifying Corbitt and linking him to the stolen items.

Corbitt is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
