Toms River, NJ – Krzysztof Niedzielski, 49, of Toms River, pleaded guilty on April 11, 2025, to defrauding the Social Security Administration (SSA) out of more than $270,000 in disability benefits over an eight-year period, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Jersey announced.
Niedzielski admitted to theft of public money and making false statements to the SSA. According to court documents, from 2012 through 2020, Niedzielski fraudulently claimed to be disabled and unable to work, obtaining approximately $270,933 in disability benefits for himself, his wife, and dependent children. However, the U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed that during this time, Niedzielski was actively managing and performing physical labor for a home improvement contracting business while intentionally concealing this employment from the SSA.
By failing to disclose his substantial income, Niedzielski was able to prevent reductions to the disability payments he was receiving, which were intended for individuals who could not work due to disability.
Niedzielski faces significant penalties. The charge of theft of public money carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000. The charge of making false statements to the SSA carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison, along with an additional $250,000 fine.
Sentencing for Niedzielski is scheduled for August 5, 2025, before a U.S. District Judge in New Jersey.
