TOLEDO, Ohio – A former assisted living employee has been convicted of stealing thousands of dollars from a blind resident over nearly a year.

Tiesha Hunt, 46, of Toledo, pleaded no contest to a theft charge on Dec. 2. Police allege Hunt used the debit card of an 81-year-old woman, legally blind, to make unauthorized purchases totaling $2,607.88, including items such as laundry detergent and meat products the victim never ordered.

The victim noticed discrepancies after visiting her bank and realizing she only had $5 in her account. Court records indicate that the thefts began in September 2024.

Hunt was terminated from Alpine House of Toledo after the facility discovered the theft. Facility manager Tosha Sanders emphasized the commitment to resident safety and cooperation with authorities.

Hunt was sentenced to 180 days at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio, with 150 days suspended, 30 days of electronic monitoring, and one year of active probation.
