Tiruvarur police have arrested 30-year-old R Hamira Feroz for lodging a false complaint claiming that 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery had been snatched from her.

A resident of Eravancheri in the Kodavasal block, Hamira lives with her mother and daughter, while her husband, Reenu Waludin, works abroad.

On January 28, Hamira reported to the Eravancheri police station that around 3 PM, while riding home from a bank on her two-wheeler, a man on a motorcycle had snatched her bag containing gold ornaments. Police registered a case and formed a special investigation team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police P Tamilmaran.

CCTV footage and witness interviews revealed no evidence supporting her claim. Under sustained questioning, Hamira confessed that she had hidden the jewellery at home for personal use without informing her family. She subsequently returned the 25 sovereigns of gold to the police.
