Tiruppur police on Thursday arrested Palanisamy, the president of Samalapuram Town Panchayat, in connection with the death of local social activist Palanisamy, 57. The incident took place on Wednesday evening near Karugampalayam Government Primary School on Samalapuram – Karnampettai Road.
According to police reports, the activist was riding his two-wheeler when he was rear-ended by a car driven by the accused. The collision caused the activist to be thrown off the vehicle, resulting in fatal injuries. The victim died on the spot.
Authorities have registered a case against the Panchayat president, who is currently in custody and will face further investigation.
