The Tirunelveli Idol Wing in Tamil Nadu has arrested four individuals, including a DMK youth wing executive, in connection with the theft of a metal Amman statue. The stolen idol was seized during a vehicle check operation on May 13.
The incident unfolded when the Idol Wing team, conducting routine vehicle checks along the Tirunelveli–Thoothukudi road, noticed a car parked suspiciously near Vadavallanadu around 11:30 am. Upon searching the vehicle, officials found a two-foot metal Amman statue hidden inside a sack.
The man inside the car, identified as Ramesh, allegedly confessed to the crime, stating that he and three accomplices—Prathap, Thangasatish, and Vetrivel—had stolen the statue from a godown in Thoothukudi owned by Kannan. The Idol Wing team later arrested all four suspects, including another individual named Vignesh.
The investigation continues as authorities examine the origins of the stolen idol and possible connections to other crimes in the region.
