In a significant crackdown, the Tirap police along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) arrested two women drug peddlers in separate operations on Sunday, officials said.
The first operation was led by the anti-drug squad and CRPF near Thinsa village, where the team intercepted Chumtoi Mossang, a resident of Lazu village. Officers recovered 12 soap cases containing 142 grams of heroin, valued at approximately Rs 4.80 lakh. The operation was carried out following a tip-off and was supervised by Khonsa police station officer-in-charge Ngowang Rango, Tirap SP Aditya said.
In another raid, police and Assam Rifles apprehended 33-year-old Nyamyang Namet, also from Lazu village. Authorities seized seven plastic soap cases containing 82.5 grams of heroin during this bust, according to a DIPRO report.
Together, the recovered heroin weighs over 220 grams with a street value exceeding Rs 7.3 lakh. The arrests highlight the ongoing efforts by Tirap police and paramilitary forces to combat drug trafficking in the region.
