A man originally from Darjeeling was arrested on Sunday after he allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp weapon on a busy road in Bhubaneswar, leaving her critically injured. Police apprehended the accused as he tried to flee the area.
The attacker has been identified as Tinku Gurung, while the victim—also from Darjeeling—sustained severe injuries to her neck and is currently receiving treatment at a private hospital.
Reports indicate that the couple had been living in Bhubaneswar for their business. The woman runs a momo stall, and Gurung works as a chef at a local hotel. An argument between them earlier in the day escalated into a violent assault.
Witnesses immediately alerted authorities, prompting the Chandrasekharpur Police to chase and nab Gurung near the Master Canteen area.
While being taken into custody, Gurung claimed emotional distress and alleged infidelity as his motive, stating, “I loved her and did everything for her, but she betrayed me.”
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
