GIBSON COUNTY, Ind. – A 31-year-old murder case has been solved, according to Indiana State Police, thanks to DNA evidence that led to the arrest of an Evansville man this week.
Timothy Farber, 61, was arrested Tuesday and charged in connection with the 1993 murder of Norman Ellerbrook, who was 63 at the time of his death.
Ellerbrook’s body was discovered by his roommate at the bottom of a basement staircase in a home near Warrenton. An autopsy revealed he died from blunt force trauma to the head and had suffered multiple stab wounds, although none were determined to be fatal.
The Indiana State Police Cold Case Squad and the FBI recently reopened the long-unsolved case. Through modern forensic analysis, DNA evidence collected during the original investigation was linked to Farber, leading to his arrest.
Officials have not disclosed further details about the nature of the DNA evidence or the motive behind the alleged crime. Farber is currently in custody as the investigation continues.
