Timothy Ayers, a 43-year-old resident of Jersey, has been sentenced to two years and six months in prison for his involvement in supplying drugs and money laundering. Ayers was convicted in the Royal Court after it was revealed he provided 830 grams of cannabis to Guernsey resident Darren El Mettouri, 42, for £15,400.
The pair’s illicit activities were closely monitored by Jersey Customs and Immigration Services, States of Jersey Police, and the Guernsey Border Agency. El Mettouri was previously sentenced to four years and four months in April for his role in the cannabis supply operation and for failing to declare cash during export.
During their arrest, authorities discovered £15,440 in cash at a bar in St. Helier, where El Mettouri handed the money to Ayers. Further investigations led to the discovery of 830 grams of cannabis, a small amount of cocaine, and £600 in El Mettouri’s home, while Ayers was found with £15,400, personal drugs, and a notebook detailing transactions.
Ayers admitted that one of the notebook entries referred to El Mettouri and acknowledged receiving £15,440 from him. However, he offered no explanation for other names and amounts totaling over £100,000. The investigation into Ayers’ criminal assets remains ongoing.
Senior manager of Jersey Customs, Luke Goddard, praised the collaborative efforts of the agencies involved, highlighting their success in targeting drug trafficking networks operating across the islands.
