Timoteo Son-Gonzalez Charged with Alien Smuggling and Re-Entry

Guatemalan National Faces 12 Years for Illegal Alien Transport

by Sophia Bennett

Acting United States Attorney Sara C. Sweeney announced the return of an indictment charging 40-year-old Timoteo Son-Gonzalez, a Guatemalan national, with unlawful transportation of an illegal alien for financial gain and illegal re-entry after being deported. If convicted on all charges, Son-Gonzalez faces a maximum penalty of 12 years in federal prison.

The indictment alleges that in February 2025, Son-Gonzalez transported an alien for financial gain, fully aware, or recklessly disregarding, the fact that the alien had entered and remained in the United States unlawfully. It also claims that Son-Gonzalez was unlawfully present in the U.S. after being previously deported in June 2024.

An indictment is a formal charge, and every defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

This case is under investigation by the United States Customs and Border Protection, with Assistant United States Attorney Kelli Swaney leading the prosecution.
