An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Oklahoma has been arrested after authorities say she illegally prescribed controlled drugs and then purchased them back from patients.
The Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics announced the arrest of Tiffany Burke, an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Durant, Oklahoma, following an investigation into suspicious prescription practices.
According to investigators, the case began after a complaint alleged that Burke was prescribing controlled dangerous substances (CDS) to patients without medical necessity. Agents launched an investigation and reportedly found evidence that Burke issued prescriptions for opioids and then asked patients to fill them at pharmacies.
Authorities say she allegedly instructed patients to return with the medications to the clinic, where she would buy the drugs back from them. Investigators believe the substances were obtained either for her personal use or for possible redistribution.
Officials with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics said their agents were able to verify the claims during the investigation.
Burke was arrested on March 12 and charged with obtaining controlled dangerous substances by fraud. The investigation remains ongoing.
