Nellore police have cracked down on an inter-state vehicle theft gang, arresting two members and recovering five stolen cars valued at Rs 1.2 crore.

The arrested suspects have been identified as Thupili Siva (36) of Bakthavatchala Nagar and Paravasthu Lakshman Kumar (32) from Lakkireddypalle village in Atmakur mandal.

According to SP Ajitha Vejendla, the gang’s leader, referred to as A-1, operated across Delhi, Maharashtra, and Haryana. The gang stole cars, altered their number plates with Andhra Pradesh and Telangana registrations, and sold them locally with the help of Siva and Kumar in Nellore district.

The arrests occurred early Monday during a vehicle check at Annamaiah Circle, when the duo appeared suspicious. Upon questioning, they admitted to selling stolen vehicles after changing the registration numbers. SP Vejendla confirmed that special teams are now hunting for the gang leader A-1.

The investigation was attended by ASP CH Soujanya, city DSP M Giridhar Rao, and other officials.
