In a major crackdown, the Mumbai Police’s Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) arrested three individuals in Andheri’s JB Circle area for possessing over Rs2 crore worth of Tramadol tablets, also known as the “ISIS drug” due to its misuse by terror groups.
Acting on intelligence received by the Azad Maidan unit of the ANC, police conducted a targeted raid and recovered 1,11,440 Tramadol tablets. The arrested suspects have been identified as Pratik Upadhyay, Yogesh Singh, and Bhavesh Shah.
According to investigators, the trio was using courier networks to distribute the banned substance, attempting to stay below the radar.
Tramadol is a centrally acting opioid painkiller, commonly abused due to its addictive properties. It was officially classified as a psychotropic substance by the Government of India in April 2018 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The value of the seized drugs is estimated at Rs2 crore in the international illegal pharmaceutical market.
This operation comes just weeks after the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) dismantled a global drug syndicate operating via encrypted platforms and cryptocurrency across four continents.
