In ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes, police in Kashmir have arrested three drug peddlers across Srinagar, Anantnag, and Budgam and seized contraband substances from their possession.
In Srinagar, a police team from the Police Post Urdu Bazar, led by the Incharge, set up a checkpoint at Bohri Kadal. There, they intercepted a suspicious individual identified as Farooq Ahmad Dar (son of Mohd Akbar Dar) from Chek Charat Ram Kunzar, currently residing in Bohri Kadal. A search of his possession revealed approximately 116 grams of charas-like contraband wrapped in maize peels.
In Anantnag, a police team from Police Station Aishmuqam, stationed at a checkpoint near Ainoo crossing, apprehended Sabzar Ahmad Tantray (son of Gh. Hassan), a resident of Ainoo Brai, Ashmuqam. Upon searching him, they discovered 318 grams of charas powder and 72 grams of a charas-like substance.
Meanwhile, in Budgam, a police team from Police Station Beerwah set up a checkpoint on the Aohangam-Rathsona road near an iron bridge. A suspicious individual, later identified as Faisal Ahmad Wani (son of Mashooq Ahmad Wani) from Kanihama Magam, attempted to flee upon seeing the police but was apprehended. The search revealed 116 grams of charas-like substance wrapped in corn husk.
All three individuals were arrested, and cases under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were filed at the respective police stations. Investigations are ongoing.
The police have urged the public to report any instances of drug peddling or criminal activity by contacting the nearest police station or dialing 112. They reassured the community that law enforcement will continue to take a tough stance on drug trafficking.
