Indore police arrested three individuals in connection with the theft of mobile phones worth Rs4 lakh from a shop located in Vijay Nagar. The accused allegedly stole the phones, distributed them among themselves, and sold them at discounted prices. The police were able to track the stolen devices using IMEI numbers, which led to the identification of the culprits.
According to Chandrakant Patel, the Vijay Nagar Police Station in charge, the theft was reported by Ankit Soni, a resident of Pardeshipura. In his complaint, Soni stated that several mobile phones were stolen from his shop in Vijay Nagar in September 2024. Initially, the police had no leads on the suspects, but they continued investigating the case.
The cyber team, working on tracking the IMEI numbers of the stolen mobile phones, eventually traced an active phone to a youth, leading to the arrest of Ashraf alias Bala (son of Rashid Khan). Upon further questioning, Ashraf revealed that he, along with Javed (son of Bashir Khan, a resident of Tarana, Ujjain) and Irshad (son of Hakim, a resident of Ichhawar, Sehore district), was involved in the theft. They had stolen the phones and divided them among themselves.
The police recovered mobile phones valued at approximately Rs4 lakh from their possession. It was noted that Ashraf had around 13 previous cases registered against him.
Currently, the police are investigating those who may have purchased the stolen phones from the accused.
