In a significant drug bust, three smugglers were arrested in Udham Singh Nagar district on Saturday evening after being caught in possession of approximately 1 kg of smack, valued at over Rs 3 crore in the international market. The arrest occurred during a routine vehicle check by a police team led by Pullbhatta SHO Ravindra Singh Bisht.
The suspects were traveling in a suspicious car (UP 14 CF 9528) near the Shankar Farm Cut area when they were intercepted. The arrested individuals include Sanu Ahmed from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, Khurshid Hasan, and his wife Asma from Kashipur, Uttarakhand. The police seized 353g of smack from Sanu, 355g from Khurshid, and 350g from Asma. The drugs were reportedly sourced from Rifakat Ali, a known smuggler from Fatehganj West, Bareilly, and were being transported to Sitarganj.
According to SSP Manikant Mishra, Khurshid and Asma are repeat offenders, having been arrested multiple times under the NDPS Act. Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify other individuals involved in the smuggling ring.
