Three Arrested in Jones County Theft Spree

Sheriff urges vigilance amid rising theft cases

by Sophia Bennett

Jones County, Texas — Three suspects are behind bars following a series of thefts and burglaries that stretched across multiple counties in the Big Country region.

According to Jones County Sheriff Dany Jimenez, the suspects — Darrell Murphy, Zachary McMorris, and Cody Douglass — were arrested as part of an ongoing investigation into a growing wave of property crimes in the area.

Sheriff Jimenez noted that theft cases have increased sharply over the past year, with criminals becoming increasingly resourceful. The department has ramped up patrols and is calling on residents to remain alert.

“Right now, it’s a big problem,” said Sheriff Jimenez. “We’ve had numerous victims, and we’re stepping up patrols to try to prevent more from happening.”

He added that public awareness plays a vital role in stopping further incidents.

“Keep an eye out for each other,” Jimenez urged. “If you see a vehicle that doesn’t belong, call it in. I’d rather respond and it be nothing than be sorry we didn’t.”

The investigation remains ongoing as deputies continue efforts to locate and recover stolen property linked to the theft ring.
