A crime branch team of the Gurugram police has arrested three individuals for allegedly threatening and extorting a victim, police reported on Tuesday. The arrested suspects were identified as Amit Bhati alias Bobby, Lalit, and Karan, all residents of Bandhwari village in Gurugram.

The arrests were made near the Red Light T-Point on the Gurugram-Faridabad road on Monday. The incident that led to the arrests began on April 16, when a man filed a complaint at the Gwal Pahari police post. The complainant, who had taken a contract to fill soil at the DLF Garden farmhouse, stated that three men arrived at the site and demanded that the work be stopped. They also inquired about the workers at the site, to which the complainant responded that it was an individual and his brother working there. The men then threatened the worker, saying that in order to continue, they would need to pay monthly dues.

When the complainant questioned the monthly fee, the accused reportedly beat him up and threatened to kill him. The victim immediately reported the matter to the police, leading to the registration of a case at DLF Phase-1 police station in Gurugram.

Upon investigating the criminal history of the accused, police found that Amit Bhati had six cases registered against him in Gurugram for crimes including assault and violations of the Excise Act. Lalit had a case for attempt to commit culpable homicide, and Karan had two assault cases and a case under the Arms Act.

The three accused were presented in court for further questioning and have been taken into police custody remand. The investigation is ongoing.

In a separate case, Geeta, a woman from Baniyani village, Rohtak, was arrested for stealing jewellery from a house in Joniyavas village, Farrukhnagar, Gurugram, on April 19. During questioning, Geeta admitted to committing two other thefts in Gurugram. Police records show that she has seven theft cases registered against her in Rohtak and another in Gurugram.

The police have recovered Rs2.1 lakh in connection with her theft activities.
