PENDER COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) has arrested three individuals on fraud charges related to the death of Trina Marlene Williams.

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) had requested the SBI’s assistance in investigating Williams’ death, which occurred on June 8, 2021, at a residence on Shady Pines Drive in Hampstead. However, it wasn’t until December 31, 2024, that the investigation took a new turn.

On April 2, the SBI arrested three suspects for fraudulent activities linked to Williams’ death. Catherine Mia Talbott faces charges of felony conspiracy and felony fraud, while Patricia Elaine Chadwick has been charged with four counts of notary fraud. Richard McClean Potter was charged with one count of obtaining property under false pretenses, one count of felony conspiracy, and one count of felony fraud.

The death investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Pender County Sheriff’s Office at 910-259-1212.
