A complaint about a robbery at knifepoint led to the arrest of three men involved in a series of car thefts, according to the Greater Chennai Police. On Friday, K Abdul Rahman (38) reported that three men on a motorbike stopped him near Thiruvottiyur, threatened him with a knife, and stole Rs800.
Upon investigating the robbery, the police arrested Augustine Eben Inbaraj (54), Bharatiraja (36), and P Ravi (55), all of whom hail from Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, and Namakkal, respectively. The suspects are believed to have been involved in a string of car thefts, with a method of breaking open parked cars and stealing them.
During the arrest, the police recovered several stolen items, including an Ashok Leyland truck, an MUV (multi-utility vehicle), two bikes, and nine mobile phones. This isn’t Inbaraj’s first brush with the law; he was previously arrested in 2021 by Arumbakkam police for similar thefts. Authorities revealed that he had been involved in multiple thefts and robberies across the state and was also allegedly engaged in selling stolen vehicles.
The police are continuing their investigation, looking into the full extent of the trio’s criminal activities.
