In a significant crackdown on cheating, Delhi Police arrested three individuals involved in an impersonation scam during the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) recruitment exam on April 20 at a school in south Delhi. The incident came to light when the biometric verification system flagged a mismatch between the candidate’s photo and the biometric data during the exam screening process.
The complainant, a teacher at the school, reported that an individual had arrived to appear for the exam on behalf of another candidate. The biometric device alerted the officials about the discrepancy, triggering further investigation. The impersonator was identified as Sachin, sent by the actual candidate, Nitin, who had been scheduled to appear for the CBSE recruitment exam for the positions of superintendent and junior assistant.
According to police sources, Nitin hails from Jhajjar, Haryana, while Sachin is from Rohtak. Both individuals are currently being investigated for their involvement in the scam. Police confirmed that Sachin was arrested on the same day the impersonation was detected. Following his interrogation, two more arrests were made in the next four days.
An investigation has been initiated under sections 319(2) (cheating by impersonation) and 318(4) (cheating) of the BNS Act. The police stated that the scale of the scam is more significant than initially thought, and Sachin has revealed that a monetary involvement was part of the operation, with additional individuals potentially linked to the fraud.
The CBSE has not yet commented on the matter, as Rahul Singh, the Director of CBSE, declined to provide further details on the case.
The investigation continues, with authorities expanding their efforts to uncover the full extent of the impersonation network involved in the scam.
