Three members of the Rashid gang have been arrested for robbing Rs 14 lakh from a godown in Anand Vihar. According to police, armed men stormed into a pan masala dealer’s godown in Rishabh Vihar Society and fled with the cash. A case was registered at Anand Vihar police station.
DCP (Crime) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav stated that on September 10, following a tip-off, two suspects—Amir Suhail and Deepak Sharma, residents of Village Panchi in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh—were apprehended. Their interrogation led to the arrest of another gang member, Momin, from Khajuri Chowk.
The police recovered two country-made pistols, one sophisticated Beretta pistol, and 17 live cartridges. The car used during the robbery was also seized. A separate case under the Arms Act has been registered.
During questioning, Sharma disclosed that he had learned about the large cash stored at the godown nine months prior and informed gang leader Rashid. The gang waited until August to plan the robbery. Rashid assigned Suhail to arrange a vehicle, while others procured firearms.
On August 31, the gang gathered in Ghaziabad before proceeding to Anand Vihar. After escaping with the cash, they regrouped at Sharma’s residence in Baghpat to divide the money.
Police revealed the gang had also planned a major robbery in Aligarh targeting hawala money worth Rs 90 lakh, but were arrested before they could execute it.
