City police have arrested three individuals for attempting to circulate counterfeit Rs 500 currency notes by depositing them at a bank’s cash deposit counter. The accused—Nikhil Kishan Sargar from Rajarampuri, Amol Ganpati Potdar from Mangalwar Peth, and Shivprasad Dilip Kada from New Shahupuri—were caught with 86 fake Rs 500 notes.

The police registered a case against the trio at Juna Rajwada police station. Investigation revealed that Potdar, a jeweller, received the counterfeit cash from Sargar and instructed his son to deposit it into his wife’s bank account in September 2024.

The bank’s machine rejected the fake currency, which accumulated in the reject box. After noticing the suspicious activity, the bank filed a complaint, prompting police to launch an investigation. The three suspects were arrested on Wednesday in connection with the counterfeit currency operation.
