MORGAN HILL (KGO) — Three suspects have been arrested in connection with a home invasion robbery that turned violent in Morgan Hill on December 19. The suspects, identified as Armando Hernandez (20), Alex Griego (21), and Justin Heppler (25), fled the scene after shooting a homeowner at gunpoint.
According to the Morgan Hill Police Department, the homeowner called dispatchers around 12:30 p.m., stating that he was about to be shot by intruders who had entered his home, located at the corner of Calle Mazatan and Calle Verde, near El Toro Elementary School.
When officers arrived, they found a 62-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to his chest. The victim said he was shot after attempting to escape from the three suspects, who were reportedly Hispanic males. They had forced their way into the home with the intention of robbing the victim.
A witness provided police with a description of a red Hyundai used as the getaway vehicle. The suspects were seen fleeing the scene wearing bandanas over their faces. Officers were able to track the vehicle and pull it over on U.S. Highway 101 near Tennant Avenue in Morgan Hill.
During a search of the vehicle, police recovered the gun that was used to shoot the homeowner. The Morgan Hill Police Department stated that this was not believed to be a random act, and the homeowner was likely targeted due to the large number of valuables in his home.
Hernandez, Griego, and Heppler were arrested and are facing charges related to the home invasion robbery and shooting.
