CHINO, Calif. — In a significant crackdown on gift card theft, Chino Police have seized thousands of stolen gift cards linked to a large-scale scam in Southern California.
The investigation was launched after authorities identified thefts occurring at over 250 department stores across Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino, and San Diego counties within just one month. Photos shared by the Chino Police Department on Instagram showcased stacks of stolen gift cards from major retailers, including Target and Nordstrom, with approximately 9,500 cards recovered.
One individual from El Monte has been arrested on suspicion of multiple undisclosed charges related to the thefts.
As the holiday season approaches, police urge the public to exercise caution when purchasing gift cards. Shoppers are advised to inspect packaging for signs of tampering and to ensure that the PIN sticker on the back of the card remains intact.
