RENO, Nev. — Thomas Tonar, a Sun Valley resident, was sentenced to 30 years in prison for embezzling more than $714,000 from local casinos, the Washoe County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Tonar was convicted of four counts of embezzlement over $100,000 and two counts under $100,000. The investigation began in June 2025 after Sparks Police responded to Dotty’s Casino, where surveillance footage showed Tonar, a casino employee, stealing cash from the office.
Authorities determined Tonar stole funds from six Dotty’s Casino locations, totaling $714,713.59. He was arrested days later at a motel in Sacramento, where $677,069 in stolen money and three firearms were recovered.
