SIOUX CITY (KTIV) – A man has been arrested and charged in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in mid-January at a Sioux City car dealership.
Thomas Lefthandbull, 27, was apprehended in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Sunday, January 20. He faces one count each of first-degree robbery and first-degree theft stemming from the January 13 robbery at Riverside Auto in Sioux City.
According to police, two men arrived at the dealership around 5 p.m. that day. Lefthandbull, driving an SUV, approached the dealership owner and asked to test drive a white Chevrolet Impala. He claimed one of the tires was low and asked the owner to fill it.
While the owner fetched a hose, the Impala was backed up and driven off the lot. When the owner tried to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly brandished a gun.
The investigation led to the arrest of 23-year-old Aaron McBride after a high-speed chase involving a stolen Toyota Highlander. McBride was later released on bond but failed to attend a parole check-in, prompting a warrant for his arrest.
During a post-Miranda interview, McBride identified his accomplice only as “Tommy.” Police later found surveillance video from Menards in Sioux City showing Lefthandbull with McBride before the robbery. Officers used facial recognition software to confirm Lefthandbull’s identity.
Lefthandbull was booked into the Woodbury County Jail on June 3 with bond set at $25,000. He has been charged with robbery in the first degree and theft in the first degree.
