Greater Manchester courts have handed down severe prison sentences this week, with some of the region’s worst offenders put behind bars.
Ajaz Ahmed, described as “callous,” was jailed for 28 years after grooming and abusing underage girls at a café he ran and his home in Rochdale. His horrific crimes spanned several years.
Also sentenced were a robbery gang who targeted cash machines across the North West using explosive devices. Meanwhile, reckless driver Thomas Howard led police on a dangerous high-speed chase through Rossendale before crashing into a kerb after failing to navigate a narrow bridge.
Howard, 32, was arrested for multiple driving offenses, including drug driving and driving without insurance. He was sentenced to 32 weeks in prison and received a three-year driving ban.
Manchester Evening News reporters continue to cover the region’s most serious cases as justice is served.
