In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Thiruvananthapuram Rural Narcotics Cell arrested two men on Tuesday for allegedly selling MDMA to college students and fishermen along the coastal belt. The accused, Jude Godfrey (32) and Susadim (31), both residents of Vizhinjam, were caught with 12 grams of MDMA in Pulluvila near Poovar.
According to police officials, the duo had sourced the narcotic from Bengaluru and transported it to Kerala, where they intended to distribute it in coastal areas. Their arrest followed a coordinated raid led by DSP Pradeep from the Thiruvananthapuram Rural Narcotics Cell. After completing the necessary formalities, the suspects were handed over to the Kanjiramkulam police station and subsequently remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
MDMA, commonly known as ‘Ecstasy’ or ‘Molly,’ has become increasingly popular among partygoers, and it has entered the illegal drug market in Kerala. Police suspect that the arrested individuals are part of a larger network smuggling synthetic drugs into the state. This arrest is part of the growing concern over the rising circulation of MDMA in the region.
Earlier, city police also arrested Jaseem (35), an assistant director in the film industry, from Vizhinjam. He was apprehended with 2.08 grams of MDMA after being caught attempting to distribute the drug in Kaimanam. The special team, including shadow police and Karamana police, made the arrest based on a tip-off.
Authorities are intensifying their efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks targeting young consumers. “The increasing use of MDMA among youth is alarming. We are working to dismantle these supply chains and will take action against those involved,” said the police.
