Thirumangalam police arrested 27-year-old mechanic Subramani for allegedly stealing mobile phones and gold jewellery from a women’s hostel.
The accused, residing in Mogappair, a few kilometers from the hostel, was caught following a complaint from a 36-year-old woman resident. She reported on July 22 that her gold jewellery and three expensive mobile phones went missing after returning from the bathroom. CCTV footage revealed a man breaking into the room.
Police registered a complaint and apprehended Subramani, who has now been sent to prison. Investigations revealed that he funded a lavish lifestyle by stealing items and selling them, authorities said.
