LYNDONVILLE, VT — A routine traffic stop turned into a major arrest Monday evening when two Wheelock residents were taken into custody on multiple outstanding warrants in the parking lot of a closed business on Route 122.
At 6:40 p.m., Officer Gerrish was monitoring traffic on Urie Drive when he noticed a suspicious vehicle occupied by individuals known to have active warrants. The officer followed the vehicle onto Red Brick Road, eventually stopping it at 648 Gilman Road.
The driver, Tharen Amidon, 32, of Kenniston Hill Road, was arrested on two separate warrants:
The first, for aggravated assault with a weapon and reckless endangerment, included a no-bail hold.
The second was a parole violation warrant issued by the Vermont Department of Corrections. His original charges included:
Retail theft
Identity theft
Cocaine and heroin possession
Eluding law enforcement
Concealing stolen property
Driving with a suspended license
Giving false information to law enforcement
Violating conditions of release
The passenger, Megan Metcalf, 32, also of Kenniston Hill Road, was arrested on a warrant charging her with:
Felony identity theft
Fraudulent use of a credit card
Retail theft
Unlawful trespass of a building
Her bail was set at $500.
Both individuals were transported to the Lyndonville Police Department and later lodged at the Northeast Regional Correctional Facility. The vehicle was towed by Roland’s Wrecker.
Vermont State Police assisted on the scene.
